Another year has passed, and it’s time for my annual visit to photograph these girls for their Christmas portraits. Their beautiful faces light up as they show me their favorite ornaments on the Christmas tree. The season of love and giving – isn’t that what Christmas is all about? I count my blessings, thankful that I have the chance to document not just their Christmases, but also their childhood.
2012 Family Equality Council Awards Dinner at Universal Studios Hollywood
14 FebOn a beautiful spring evening in Los Angeles, I photographed the annual awards dinner for Family Equality Council. This year’s event took place at the magnificent Globe Theater, situated on top of the hill at the Universal Studios.
The event started with a red carpet welcome, followed by a cocktail hour with live music al fresco. The dinner and award ceremony inside the gorgeous main hall honored Todd Parr, acclaimed children’s author; Chad Griffin, the co-founder and Board President of the AMerican Foundation for Equal Rights, and Patrick Murphy, former congressman who fought to repeal the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy in the military. Presenters of the award include Director Rob Reiner, Commander John Armantrout, and Actor Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family.
As the guests enjoyed a sumptuous meal, performances by the world-acclaimed Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles and Jesse Tyler Ferguson entertained the crowd.

Family Portrait at the Huntington Library
31 MayMeredith was one of the first Groupon customers who contacted me after she purchased a Groupon for Marie Chao Photography. Since she has an annual pass to the beautiful Huntington Library, she suggested that as the location for her family portrait session. It was a perfect spring day: light breeze in the air, puffy clouds in the sky, flowers blooming… I was surprised how many people were waiting in line to get in when we arrived at 10:30 am!
Since the Groupon deal is for a 30-minute portrait session, Meredith already had a location planned – the Lily Pond. We found a quiet corner by the pond, and off we went. Doesn’t it look like an image from a fairytale story with his fiery red hair?!
Charlotte is a three-week old (!) beautiful baby girl. She was super cooperative and I captured some tender moments between her and her family.
I wished that I could’ve stayed at the Huntington Library to walk around… but I had another shoot to run to! A lady’s 90th birthday party!
